There isn’t much more I can say that hasn’t already been said about the incredible challenge of this year, only to say how incredibly proud I am of how much we have achieved together despite it all. There is much to celebrate. I would like to firstly congratulate our Graduates of 2021 who despite the last two years have achieved outstanding results; we are confident all students will receive a tertiary offer and go on to further study and employment.
We hope that all of our graduates join the MAC Alumni group in LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/groups/13914822/) so that we can continue to celebrate their career achievements in the future and share opportunities with you as they arise.
We started this year with 143 Entry students – our biggest cohort yet – and an overall enrolment of 590, a significant increase from 440 when I arrived at MAC in 2019. Next year, we welcome 130 Entry students and a projected overall enrolment of 650. This rapid growth is a testament of the school’s success.
This year saw some of our best sports carnivals yet, with high rates of participation particularly from our Entry students, leading and taking part in the house novelty events, enthusiastically cheering for their houses and putting on a great display of singing and coordinated dance routines.
This year we also saw an increase in the number of students participating in student leadership programs, we were fortunate enough to hold a number of assemblies onsite and celebrate student achievement and showcase musical talents.
We pivoted in and out of remote learning seamlessly and in the virtual environment we enjoyed key events such as Science and Book Weeks. These events reached even greater heights this year with increased student-led activities including science challenges and competitions, open mic events and podcasts.
Despite the challenge of the past two years and forced social disconnect from school, the Attitudes to School Survey results have remained at above-state-averages in almost all measures. We have seen an improvement in all areas of NAPLAN at Years 7 and 9 and the literacy and numeracy intervention programs have had a significant impact on student achievement. The MAC Awards Night was our biggest yet, where we recognised 60 students for their academic and leadership achievement as well as recognising the achievements of our Graduates of 2021.
On behalf of myself and Megan Rawlins, I would like to congratulate all 2021 students. You have continued to impress and inspire us with your incredible resilience, positivity and flexibility.
We are looking forward to 2022 with hope and optimism. MAC will be a hype of activity with building works continuing, senior students moving between MAC and the Debney Meadows Primary School Campus and increased enrolments. We look forward to the many events that were missed this year and working with the whole community in continuing to build a great school.
Please note that the school is closed from midday Friday 17 December and reopens on Friday 28 January.
We would like to wish you all a safe and happy holiday.
Best wishes and warm regards
