Parent Talk by GP in School Dr Balvinder Khaira: Establishing healthy home routines for your teen

Dr Balvinder Khaira, our GP in School, invites parents and carers to attend a virtual session looking at establishing healthy home routines for your teen. He will cover topics such as healthy eating, sleep and technology. There will be time for questions and answers at the end of the session.

Dr Bal, as he is known by our students, works at the school one day a week where he consults with students as part of the Doctors in Secondary Schools Program.

Dr Bal is a general practitioner with an interest in mental health and the interplay between the psychological, physical, spiritual and greater societal dimensions of an individual. His medical practice is based on the concepts of mind-body holism, organicity and salutogenesis (a medical model that focuses on supporting human well being & health). His process is one of inquiry into the causal factors that create disease, whilst also supporting factors that can lead to greater harmony, well being, and eudaimonia (the philosophy of human flourishing) in an individual. He graduated medical school from the University of Western Australia and completed general practice training in Melbourne. He has worked extensively in community health, addiction medicine and with people living in socioeconomic disadvantage. It is from this background he developed a curiosity into how the healing traditions of the world can supplement the current western scientific medical model.
