The Mount Alexander College School Council has responsibility for the general educational policy of the school within Ministerial guidelines. The School Council comprises parents, teachers and community members and is tasked with making decisions related to curriculum, finance, student welfare, facilities and community engagement of the school.

Councillors are elected for a two-year period, with elections usually completed by the end of March for the period ahead. All parents and/or guardians of students enrolled at the school, and teachers working at the school are eligible to vote (if an election is required), and may serve on subcommittees of the council. The council meets on a monthly basis.

Acknowledgement of Country

We acknowledge that Mount Alexander College is located on the lands of the Wurundjeri Woiwurrung people, the Traditional Custodians of Naarm and the surrounding areas.

We pay our respects to their Elders past and present, acknowledging the ongoing connection of the Wurundjeri people to this land, the Maribyrnong River and the wider community in which is MAC located.

As School Council, we are entrusted with the stewardship of this school including its values, its environment and its future direction. Acknowledging Country reminds us that long before this school, and what is now known as wider Melbourne, this land was carefully cared for and understood through tens of thousands of years of knowledge, passed down across countless generations.

First Nations people teach us the importance of thinking beyond the short term where the understanding land is not simply as a place we use, but as something we are responsible for. As we work together, may that long view guide our decisions, so that the value we build and protect for our students today, also sustainably benefits the many generations to come.
