Student Support
Academic Success
The international students at Mount Alexander College thrive in an environment that empowers students in their learning. All students are guided in their subject choice from over 100 electives. Their abilities and needs as well as their career goals are taken into account when selecting their subjects. The school aims to produce well-rounded young adults through the student-led program. The international students have a record of outstanding academic achievement at our school.
English Language Centre
Mount Alexander College has an English Language Centre on site as well as a dedicated literacy team and extra literacy classes to address the needs of international students.
Counselling for Courses & Careers
All international students receive individual counselling when selecting courses. Students can choose from over 100 subjects. We have a dedicated careers and pathways team who work with each student to assist them in accessing the universities.
Extra-curricular
International students are encouraged to participate in all of the school events including school house activities, camps, excursions, sport, drama and other activities. Special events are organised, with their teachers, for the international students including lunches and dinners to celebrate significant dates in the calendar.
Multicultural Education Aides
International students are well supported by staff at Mount Alexander College. Bilingual staff provide extra support to those students who need to communicate at times in their first language. Interpreters are also available to assist with communication between the families and the school.
Reporting on progress
Reports are prepared on a six weekly basis and are published on an online system, Compass. Parents are able to access this at any time. Regular communication with the school is encouraged. The report will be translated twice a year (once per semester).
Homestay
International students stay with families in the local area. Homestay families are carefully chosen to ensure that the student has the best possible experience of life in Australia. Homestay families are given advice and assistance as is required. The International Student Coordinator works closely with all of the homestay families to ensure any issues are resolved promptly.
Onsite Doctor and Nurse
We have a doctor and nurse at the school for students only one day a week and students can access an onsite counsellor and/or pyschologist if requested by the doctor.
